We had an absolutely tough scenario where only the topmost academic achievers could land decent jobs, given the Indian economy in the 1970s and 1980s.
Later with liberalisation and with the internet boom, we had opportunities for numerous candidates at various rungs to make it to the cut.
A plethora of engineering colleges opened up paving the way for students from many cities and towns to dream big.
